Speeding and Traffic Management

Drive Safe

DriveSafe is run by volunteers in Little Gaddesden with the support of Hertfordshire Police and the Parish Council.

Currently there are 10 volunteers.  4 volunteers are needed for each one hour session.   More volunteers we could call upon would be helpful.  Training and hi viz jackets are provided.

Please contact Lyn Hyde, George Godar or Lesley Thompson for further details.

The purpose of DriveSafe activities is

  • to reduce accidents and near misses by providing a deterrent
  • educate drivers about the dangers of speeding
  • to attempt to slow down traffic that is travelling in, around and through Little Gaddesden, often at great speed and disregarding the context of the highway.
  • provide statistical evidence to the relevant authorities to feed into requests for improved traffic management be it additional signage, or reductions and harmonisation of speed limits in the village

Police letters are sent to offenders, and if they get a third letter they get a Police visit.

Drive Safe Report for 2025

The team managed to get out 8 times.  Rain stopped play Jan, Feb, April and November.

This represents 14 hours of volunteer time.

We monitored 2,584 cars passing of which 348 were exceeding 36 mph,  twenty of those were exceeding 50 mph (plus the ones we failed to record owing to their speed, or our inaccuracies in recording and dirty number plates).
